The bank account belonging to the wife of a senior IPS officer was hacked by fraudsters and a huge sum was withdrawn. According to a complaint filed by Anuja Tripathy, wife of senior IPS officer Susanta Nath, Rs 10 lakh was withdrawn from her salary account over a period of two years. Tripathy also mentioned that she had not received any SMS alerts for these withdrawals due to which she was not aware of the transactions until recently.
In her complaint to the State Crime Branch, Tripathy also mentioned that she was not actively using that particular account of hers. In March 2019, for the first time, she complained of an unauthorized transaction on her account when Rs 2,000 had been credited without her knowledge. At the time, she informed the bank and blocked her debit card. A month later, after a thorough check by the bank, his cards were reinstated.
The complaint further states that there have been at least 31 unauthorized transactions between 2019 and now, which were without his knowledge. “We have recorded a case and are investigating the matter. The investigation is still at a preliminary stage, ”said a Crime Branch official. He further added that someone hacked into the account remotely or had access to the PIN and login details of the account.
The incident comes days after unidentified cyber crooks attempted to deceive the Crime Branch’s top official, Sanjeeb Panda. The accused allegedly sent him a message pretending to be his friends and asking him for money for medical bills.
In November, the Whatsapp account of Odisha Computer Application Center (OCAC) CEO and State Department of Electronics and Information Technology (E&IT) Additional Secretary Manoj Kumar Pattnaik was hacked. A Nigerian national, has been arrested in the Bangalore case.
